Never giving up

She slid her index finger across the words, reading them out loud to him. She gave out a cheerful chuckle when she read ‘doesn’t give up easily’. She turned to him and remarked “that doesn’t match me at all, I give up way too easily on stuff.”

He looked at her amused, moving his head left to right in disagreement, “I don’t believe that. ”

She felt a bit confounded, “if you don’t believe in horoscopes then why make me read qualities linked to our stars? ”

A genuine smile crept up his face. They had known each other for quite sometime now and he knew all too well how she wasn’t good at accepting herself in considerate definitions. “I don’t believe that you give up,” he said and she waited for him to continue, “the one thing I know about you is that you never give up. When you’re inclined on doing something, you just don’t let slide away. You wanted to write that novel and you didn’t give up until you wrote it down. You failed that exam but you didn’t give up and tried your hardest once again.” He silently stated further, ” you never gave up on him despite it all. So, it’s very untrue what you said because you’re a person who never gives up or let go easily!”

All she could manage was a smile at him because his words weren’t the kind she could deny and it hit a core.

That’s who she was, a person who never gave up. To some people it might be the most brave thing one could do to never let go but they’re elusive to the sweat and pain it requires in holding onto things and people. No, one saw her breakdown at midnight when the world was soundless asleep, or how she change pillow sides that drenched in her tears. Yes, she cries, she falls, she breaks, but she doesn’t show it liberally because to the world; she doesn’t give up. She wish they understood what it takes to keep on holding onto ropes that bite into the skin. She wish she could make them see how habitual she has gotten of giving  fragments of her being to everyone she care about, selflessly.  It cause her a lot but she can’t stop loving or caring.

And the remaining people disguise her this very quality into weakness and take her and her giving for granted because they know she won’t give up or let go.

He knew her all too well, he knew about her crying, about her breaking apart, her giving, her expecting and how she still managed a gleaming smile the next morning, how she still spoke out her mind and vivid imagination despite the critics but he didn’t let her know it. He didn’t want her to take him in same terms of fighting over not give up on him. He didn’t want her to fight for him too and nothing could be more ironic.
